UN TRES HEUREUX NO-L — a A0 poster specimen designed by Stef Cuypers — was inspired by a christmas postcard that Alfred Hitchcock and his wife send out.

First named “Grey Journal”, together with “Grey Text” and “Grey Display”, Ultra Black was conceived as part of “The Grey Press”. It started out as a communal fascination with Stef Cuypers for the handwriting on the headline posters of the London Evening Standard.

To retain it’s analogue qualities,  multiple glyphs for each letter were digitized. Using a special Opentype script these appear to be randomly inserted. When typing “HHHH”, each “H” will be different from the next.
